  • DOV CHARNEY, FOUNDER AND FORMER AMERICAN APPAREL CEO, FILES FOR BANKRUPTCY  Dov Charney has once again made his way into headlines. The former American Apparel founder and CEO has filed for personal bankruptcy in Los Angeles, along with his latest business venture, a vintage clothing store. According to the Business of Fashion website, Charney was forced into bankruptcy court because he owed $30 million to a New York-based investment firm, Standard General, involved with American Apparel. In the 1990s, Charney built American Apparel into a major retailer based in Los Angeles. The company became publicly traded in 2007, but shortly after, Charney was forced out as the company began losing money. According to various reports at the time, the board ousted Charney in 2014 in light of his inappropriate behavior and constant sexual harassment accusations, among other things.

Commercial DTF Printing

Aaron: Don Copeland has been in the decorated apparel and graphics industry for over 30 years. He has been involved in the development and growth of digital products – ranging from DTG to UV to DTF – at ColDesi, Inc. (Tampa, FL) since 2004. Currently, he is Product Manager for digital inkjet products involving these products as well as helping with the development of new and emerging digital technologies.

Terry: Let’s start by talking about direct-to-film (DTF) printing. Explain to our listeners what it is, and when did it begin?

Aaron: How has it impacted the industry so far?

Terry: Talk about what you described to us as a DIY DTF printer.

Aaron: What are the costs of the prints. Film, ink and powder.

Terry: This will not be like the desktop variety of printers. What are the requirements for power, footprint, even getting the printer through the door?

Aaron: Don, you were there in the early DTG days. What about white ink issues with these printers?

Terry: Talk to us a little about what’s required for maintenance. Do you need to print daily?

Aaron: We hear some questions out there in the industry about air filtration of the adhesive powder. Is that a concern, and how does Coldesi address it?

Terry: Everyone is dealing with supply chain issues. How are things going for you guys?

Aaron: Where can people connect with you to learn more?
