Transferring Sublimation – Use parchment paper or craft paper with sublimation instead of Teflon as you need to pull the moisture away from the transfer and Teflon will lock the moisture in and could cause fuzzy discolored edges on your sublimation item.

Figure Out Your Market – This is the first step and is much neglected. Take some time and figure who your market is and where they are located. Really put some time and effort into this, not just a quick 5 minutes. Talk to your customers and look at your competitors. Really form a good picture of your market as that will tell you where your marketing efforts should be put. Figure your market out first and then everything else falls into place.

Artwork for Direct-to-Garment – Artwork from our customers is the most difficult area for most operators. Customers tend to provide very low resolution files and often from non-art programs such as Microsoft Word. Sometimes, it’s simply a matter of asking the customer for the proper artwork, since most of our customers do not know exactly what we need from them to print the best graphic.
What we want is a 300dpi file saved at the full size it will be printed on the shirt. Many customers will want to give us jpg files since that is a common way to save information, but a jpg limits our ability to manipulate the file if necessary. Ideally we want our customer to provide us with a png, psd or eps file, saved with a transparent background.

Powder Adhesive for Cap Transfers – When printing plastisol transfers for caps, print the image in reverse onto T-75 transfer paper. While the ink is still wet, pull the paper through powder adhesive (available from most screen print suppliers) and then run down the dryer belt. Dry to the touch only, do not fully cure the ink. The powder adhesive will give the transfer a better grip on the cap front.
