Please find some links and notes from the 2 Regular Guys Podcast. What is social media supposed to do for a business? Is it simply a passive tool and just expected to be there, or is it something that should be generating leads and business? If it’s the second, what do you need to do to make that happen? Kristine Shreve from EnMart joins us after a last minute cancellation to answer these questions and give us a primer so we will be ready to talk social media with her again on the 13th.

EU Launches Retaliatory Tariffs on U.S. Apparel and Fashion Items – In an ongoing international tussle on tariffs, the European Union (EU) imposes tariffs on U.S. goods. Apparel Magazine reports that among the large list of goods affected, USA-made apparel and fashion items are among them. This category features items like cotton T-shirts, singlets, and vests as well as garments constructed of synthetic fibers and some footwear. The tariffs also cover non-wearable textiles like linens. It remains to be seen exactly how this will affect consumers, and producers.
Ryonet Launches ‘Summer of Printing for Positivity’ Contest. The grand-prize winner takes home a screen-printing press, and second- and third-place winners also receive a variety of screen-printing supplies. Deadline for entries is July 9.
Why Social Media
Aaron: So this topic came from a conversation you had had with one of your co-workers. Tell us about that conversation so we can have the backstory as we dive in.
Erich: You mentioned that part of that conversation was answering the question as to whether Social Media a passive tool or a way to actively generate leads- In your opinion, what’s the difference between the two, which one is it, or is social media something else entirely?
Aaron: So what is Social Media all about? Should I just be out there pumping my promotions and new products and telling people to buy from me?
Erich: The topic we stated at the start of the show is “Why Social Media?”, as much as many of the decorators out there just feel like they need to be where their customers are spending time, it can’t just be about jumping on the bandwagon. How can each person or company figure out a more significant “Why”; a compelling reason for engaging on Social Media?
Aaron: We all know social media can take a decent amount of time and requires patience and organic growth to really become successful, so why is it worth it to people to make that investment of time?
Erich: In 2 weeks, you’ll be back to discuss the paid promotion side of social media, that topic is something we’ll want to save a bit for the next session; That said, most companies will be looking to unpaid, organic reach when they start to communicate on social- as it comes to organic reach, where should companies be focusing? Are there some actions every company should take to promote that organic growth?
Aaron: Thanks so much for joining us! We are excited to have you back in 2 weeks to talk more about social media. Any last thoughts on this topic and also let people know the best place to reach you.
